Tulsi Vivah Decoration at Home: Dress the Tulsi, Decorate the Corner
A small, joyful festival that deserves more than a quick diya.
Diwali ends, the house goes quiet, and then a few weeks later the tulsi in your courtyard or balcony gets married. Tulsi Vivah, celebrated after Dev Uthani Ekadashi, is one of the gentlest festivals in the Hindu calendar, and one of the most decorative.
This year, Dev Uthani Ekadashi falls around 20 November 2026, with Tulsi Vivah around the same time. Dates can differ by a day depending on your panchang and city, so confirm with your priest or local calendar.
The Tulsi Mata Poshak set, for dressing the plant as a bride
What the day looks like
In many homes the tulsi plant is dressed as a bride, decorated with a chunri or poshak, bangles and flowers, and ritually married to Shaligram or Lord Vishnu. Families light lamps, sing bhajans and share sweets. It's a beautiful reason to gather, and a good moment to clean and refresh your tulsi corner.
Five ways to decorate the tulsi corner
Dress the tulsi
A Tulsi Mata Poshak Set with a shimmer net lehenga and dupatta gives the plant its bridal look without improvising with scarves.
Lay a floor mat
Place a small floral mat at the base so the corner feels set apart. The Floral Tulip Trail Mat or a Golden Lotus Threshold Mat works well.
Light the lamps
A row of diyas around the tulsi is traditional. Use a golden katori diya set for the puja and keep water-activated diyas for safe extra light.
Prepare the thali
A pooja thaali set keeps kumkum, haldi, rice, flowers and sweets ready.
Add a backdrop or toran
Hang a small toran above the tulsi vrindavan or behind it, so the corner reads as the festival's centre.

Tulsi care tip
Don't overdo the decor. The plant needs light and air. Drape the poshak gently, remove it after the puja, and avoid pins or tight ties around the stems.
If you don't have a tulsi vrindavan, a pot works just as well. Place it on a clean surface or a chowki aasan and decorate around it. For ideas on setting up a full home puja, see Home Puja and Satyanarayan Katha Decoration and How to Decorate a Small Mandir at Home.
